This painting was inspired by The Pirates of Halifax which I have now met 3 different times here in Yarmouth. I am also a huge fan of the TV show Oak Island Mystery so I painted the money pit with lots of gold treasure, I painted 7 skull and cross bones to represent the Curse of Oak Island, I painted in the 90-foot stone from Oak Island and the Overton Stone found here in Yarmouth. All you treasure hunters will be able to go on your own treasure hunt as I have hidden 7 Templar Crosses in this painting.
Click on the painting to enlarge and enjoy the hunt for the 7 templar crosses.
The Overton Stone is a large glacial boulder that has broken into two pieces. An unusual carving can be seen on one face of this stone.
The main carving on the face of the Overton Stone consists of a stylized Christian cross inside an oval, a pair of crossed Native tobacco leaves, overlain by an eagle feather, and a 3-day-old evening crescent moon.
The carved cross, and its stylized design, appears to be consistent with the possibility that it was carved by Portuguese explorers (or perhaps settlers) as a monument or memorial to a friendship treaty between themselves and the indigenous Mi'kmaq people.

I have met with the pirates for years and shared with them my art, they are a family-friendly group of Pirate Re-enactors from Halifax, Nova Scotia Canada who perform around the four Atlantic Provinces. They are funny and put on such a great show I have enjoyed seeing them year after year.

The Oak Island mystery is a series of stories of buried treasure and unexplained objects found on or near Oak Island in Nova Scotia. Since the 18th century, attempts have been made to find treasure and artifacts. Theories about artifacts present on the island range from pirate treasure to Shakespearean manuscripts to the Holy Grail or the Ark of the Covenant, with the Grail and the Ark having been buried there by the Knights Templar. Various items have surfaced over the years that were found on the island, some of which have since been carbon-dated and found to be hundreds of years old.
